About the Author
Merrill F. Unger (1909-1980) received ThM and ThD degrees from Dallas Theological Seminary and a PhD from Johns Hopkins. He served in pastoral ministry and later taught at Gordon Divinity School and Dallas Theological Seminary. He is perhaps best known for his classic study and reference volume, Unger's Bible Handbook.

So thorough

This is such a thorough treatment of the subject that I left with very few unanswered questions. Some of those questions have to do with modern demon posession, which he touches on, but not deeply.

Unger grounds his study deeply in the Old and New Testaments giving us a breadth and depth of insight on the war going on behind the scenes since the Fall. If the bible does not cover the topic it is not in this book, and I love that. Far too often sensationalists write to solve problems and address situations using scripture that does not apply. The only weakness I find with this great resource is its dispensational presuppositions concerning the Last Days, but that is a small thing. Over all this is a book that would benefit every Christian.

Excellent scholarly work.

Biblical Demonology deals with a topic so rife in our culture, yet neglected by pastors the world over. Ask the average church-going individual if a Christian can be possessed and count how many different answers you get. Ask the average missionary if they have ever encountered demonic forces. You'd be amazed at the disparity! And yet few authors tackle the subject with such scholarly attention. This is by far the best book I have ever read on the topic of demonology. There is little substance not backed with references for further study. Unger's work is a great addition to any pastor's library. It answers questions raised by society. Great for dealing with those "Paranormal Activity" buffs. Great read!

Very academic. Written by a well educated man of god. Scripturally accurate. Excellent exposition on the doctrine of demonolgy. If you are of the charasmatic bent or want to rid demons from your city, you will be disappointed. If you are seeking truth in regard to this doctrine, get it!

About the Author
Robert Amitrano, the Biological Coordinator at Bergen Community College, teaches human anatomy and physiology, human biology, comparative anatomy and embryology. He is a colleague of Gerard Tortora's, and has worked on prior editions of that market leading Human Anatomy and Physiology text and continues to update and enhance the Lab Manual that supports Tortora�s text. Robert Amitrano has also twice received awards from Who's Who Among America's Teachers.

the book is rented and the work book pages should have been blank but some one had filled them. Why would you rent workbooks that have class exercises in the content, that have already been completed? Makes no sense!

Paul Meier, MD is the author or co-author of more than 90 books that have sold more than seven million copies in more than 30 languages. What is a psychiatrist doing writing a book about experiencing God outside the box? Thousands of our Meier Clinics clients eventually ask our 100+ psychiatrists, psychologists, and therapists spiritual questions that will be addressed in this book. If you have doubts and lots of unanswered questions about God, then, in my opinion, that makes the real God who created you very happy, because you are making good use of the heart and brain he gave you when he created you in his spiritual image.

To have no doubts or questions about God is to be spiritually lazy, because you have passively accepted whatever the authorities in your environment taught you, or you are assuming that your Heavenly Father is merely a grand photocopy of your earthly father, a mistake most people make to some extent. Even your genetic makeup and brain chemistry distort your view of God, of others, of yourself, and even of life itself. You think you have a personal relationship with the real God who created this expanding universe, and you may. But your relationship might very well be with a God In The Box, with many of the influences and pat answers you have been told and passively accepted without thinking it through.

Stop and think about this concept for a moment: If you ask seven billion strangers to tell you what they think the real God of this universe is really like, you will get some views of God that are similar, but each will be uniquely somewhat different. The fact that seven billion people have seven billion differing views of God proves that not a single one of them can be completely correct. Think about that, because that also proves that your view of God as well as my own view cannot possibly be 100 percent correct and our views are certainly not 100 percent comprehensive. We only know a small fraction of what we can know about him until we spend time with him in person in Heaven.

The purpose of this book is not to take away anyone’s faith in God, but rather to assist you in the most noble and spiritually rewarding of all earthly tasks---experiencing God outside the box. This means seeing him more closely, in an accurate picture, after reading this book. It also means growing more intimate with God than you already are now while basing your relationship partially or largely on how you have been programmed to see him and know him.

Now my favorite Bible

There's always more than one way to say something, and having four Bible translations side by side proves it! Little nuances of meaning are revealed by the different wordings, and I find myself many times restating a verse in a way that is not exactly like any of them. It is a big fat book, but it is still a lot easier than juggling four big books! I highly recommend it for any serious studier of scripture.

Contains two translations that follow a close word for word interpretation and two translations that follow a more meaning for meaning interpretation. Includes scripture considered canonical by Protestant, Catholic, and Orthodox communions.

A good parallel bible which presents us with 4 scholarly translations, as well as the protestant/orthodox/catholic accepted books of the bible. A good intro as well to the development of this bible.
#Special note, this bible is not in leather, and very thick, and is hard back. You probably won't want to take this one to church, but will use it for in depth studies. What else would we expect though from something published by Oxford?

Wei Lu is an Associate Professor of Computer Science, Keene State College, New Hampshire. He received his Ph.D. degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Victoria. Prior to joining Keene State College, he was a Research Scientist with the German Research Centre for Artificial Intelligence and worked with Q1 Labs Inc. (Security Systems Division, IBM since October 2011) as a Secure Software Engineer. His general areas of research interests include Artificial Intelligence and Cyber Security. In the past 10 years, he had more than 40 papers published by peer-reviewed journals, book chapters, and conference proceedings. In addition, he co-authored a book, Network Intrusion Detection and Prevention: Concepts and Techniques published by Springer and has served as a technical program committee and a technical reviewer for more than 70 international conferences and journals since 2006.

"One of the Greatest Poets of All Time"

The Italian philosopher, Fransesco Petracha (1304-74), who was responsible for the recovery of many Latin manuscripts, who was one of the primary causes of the revival of Latin letters, and who, like Dante, wrote much of his poetry in the vulgar tongue, is one of the greatest poets of all time and one of the most influential men in the history of the western world. Of the poems he wrote in his native Italian, 366 have survived under the name "Canzoniere" (short-song). Roughly 45 of the 366 poems are provided here in an excellent, faithful translation which steers clear of that cancerous and faulty element in poetry--the rhyme. They were carefully selected for their content, so the discouraging number of 45 poems seems bigger when the editor's subtle discretion is taken into account. The basis of these poems--like Dante's Beatrice and Catallus' Lesbia--rests mostly upon Petrach's undying love for Laura, but at times his verse resounds with political and religious themes, and with praises of Rome's past and the Italy of his own time. Every poem will be an enjoyable read; they are always profound and inspiring in their glorification of feminine beauty; and the vivid and picturesque allusions to nature are always soothing and edifying. One may easily see, after reading Petrach's "Canzoniere," Horace handing Petrach his pen and Virgil his laurel crown, for they were as real to him as the lines of his poetry. They guided him through the fields of Italy and lent him breaths of inspiration along the way. Petrarch was anything but a mean and vulgar poet; he deservedly stands out as great amongst the greatest. Also included are some short prose works (letters) which throw some significant light upon the life and character of Petrach. This conveniently sized collection of the poet laureate's works is thoroughly recommended.

The Start Of A New Kind Of Life.

The influence by Francesco Petrarca (1304-1374) on the poetry of Italy and the rest of western Europe was remarkable. But as important as his italian poems were his letters and essays. These writings discussed a way of life and thinking that formed the basis of Humanism (where - in short - the emphasis is on human accomplishments and not on God).

As a writer of letters (mainly his correspondence with friends and colleagues) he wrote in the style and used the accomplished tradition of classic writers such as Cicero and Seneca. But in-spite the influence of this tradition Petrarca's letters are very personal and authentic.
In a vivid way these letters describe the author and his surroundings. He writes about the many travels he made and his interest in Antiquity.

One of the most important documents by his hand is his description of him walking up the Mount Ventoux and the description of the thoughts he had during that long walk are one of the most important building stones of the Italian Renaissance, the start of a new kind of life.

A thoughtful selection in translation

Petrarch just isn't my favorite. That said, he is worth reading, savoring; his verse and prose are worth reflecting upon. This is a great writer and mind of an important time period in Western European history and culture that is often overlooked. Petrarch is a product of Feudal Italy and the Western Schism (the Avignon Popes) and his writings give a new dimension to the time period, particularly for anyone who already enjoys the history, music, painting, tapestries, sculptures and architecture of this era.

Italy and France are on the very verge of that explosion of cultural growth and development we now call the Renaissance. This is that very pregnant spot on the time line of Western European history when everything is about to change (within a hundred years or so)and Petrarch is an important voice and a significant person of the time.

The end notes and introduction are both very well done -- as one would expect of anything associated with Oxford's World Classics series. Both the introduction and the notes add significant contextual value to the author's works. This little selection of his works in translation is a volume very worthy of any Anglophone's bookcase.

As it has been written by other reviewers, this book will not please everyone, especially not lady-readers looking for a clone of the innumerable novellas starring "closeted boy who meets non closeted boy" or "sweet gay guy who falls for his supposedly straight best friend" or... you know what I mean.
Neither will it please those readers looking for conventional romanticism as they will find none, here.
Last but not least, it will not please those readers for whom BDSM is a cheap excuse for very cheap thrills.

In Ms. Marlowe's world werewolves have split into two subspecies: werewolves, who crave for human flesh and souls -a source of power for them- and shifters, the good guys, who defend humankind from the bad wolves hunting them and free the imprisoned souls.
Werewolves are clever, scheming and cruel while shifters are naive but much stronger. The two kinds have called a truce, living unconfortably side by side while people -the pure blood- remain unaware; shifters only hunt those werewolves who do not renounce human flesh.
This is why, when shifter Colton appears at his door, werewolf Killian is suspicious and far from happy.

The premise of this novel is excellent: it is a new, original setting which would have born more fleshing out.
Unfortunately both setting and plot are underdeveloped but this is the result of a choice and not of carelessness. Ms. Marlowe focuses on the budding relationship of Colton and Killian and creates two memorable characters.
Killian is not only strong, he is also smart and perceptive while Colton, despite all his power, is a man tormented by guilt and pain but not weak. They develop what seems an S/M relationship but is actually more than that, that is a spiritual journey toward understanding and maturity. Both have a potential which is dormant and help each other fulfilling it.
They achieve this through some of the hottest S/M scenes I have ever read, seasoned by a most unexpected ingredient: a quirky sense of humour. The story is told mainly from the point of view of Killian, the supposedly cruel, evil werewolf and I came to love his quips but I also loved the lucid honesty of Colton.

The truth is that this novel is bursting with romanticism but a romanticism which has to be decrypted through an apparent gloom of bondage and violence: sex scenes take up most of the book and they are harsh, difficult to stomach for the soft-hearted. Ms. Marlowe's world is a dark, dangerous place where it is hard to tell friend from foe, where everyone has his flaws and these flaws are not pretty to look at.

I enjoyed this read but have a few reservations: writing is overall neat and proficient but there are a few lines where it loses focus: just to make an example, there is a sex scene where euphemisms (e.g. essence) are used instead of the plain words (cum or semen) and they ring shallow and false. I would appreciate a revision to make the language even more terse and to the point: sex scenes, especially S/M ones, need be extremely polished not to cross the thin line that divides the arousing from the ridiculous.
A further reservation I have already mentioned: the setting is so interesting and the plot so rich with possibilities that I would have preferred a longer, more fulfilling story.

Very convincing sexual chemistry

Rating: 8/10

PROS:
- The story seems quite original to me compared to other shapeshifter stories I've read. I was intrigued right off the bat by the specifics of Colton's and Killian's abilities, and it took me a while to figure out the differences between werewolves and shifters.
- There's a lot of sex in the book, and most of it is rough (borderline violent, even), which is not something I'm typically fond of. However, the attraction between the two men is fierce and intense, and for once I didn't mind reading the sex scenes that occur before the two characters have fallen in love. There's a passionate connection right from the start; these are two men who clearly need what they can offer each other.
- This is one of the first BDSM books I've read in which the sub desires to be punished not because he thinks he'll get off on it, but because he believes he truly deserves it. It's incredibly well done, the weaving together of eroticism with true guilt and shame.
- Marlowe does a thorough job of describing action sequences. Sex scenes, fights, and the one hardcore BDSM scene all contain a lot of detail and stretch across many pages.
- I rarely think that the "enemies to lovers" storyline is convincing, but I think it is here. And I have to say: "You smell like burnt matches" (which is one of the first things Colton says to Killian)...is one of the best anti-pickup lines ever.

CONS:
- At times the writing is so spare (that is, light on context or lacking in transitions) that it's a little hard to follow. More than once I had to go back and reread sections because I'd lost the character's train of thought or the guys' conversation had apparently skipped from one topic to another and left me behind. I think some of the crypticness is intentional, because it seems like Marlowe was trying to draw out the revelations about the characters' abilities a little at a time. I certainly don't have a problem with that, but I wanted the actual revelations to be a little more straightforward.
- The book contains a lot of echoes (phrases that are repeated over and over). They make the story sound almost conversational overall, but sometimes I found them a little too repetitive. Example: "Killian knew what Colton needed, oh yes he did. He needed to submit. Yes, that's what Colton needed..."
- The setting is--as far as I could tell--contemporary, and the men's speech is largely informal. But now and then something formal or archaic will slip into the dialogue (" `Tis nothing, then"), which seemed at odds to me with the rest of the writing.

Overall comments: The only reason I gave this 4 stars is because of the (admittedly minor) writing issues; if I were rating only the romance, I'd give it 5. Overall I enjoyed the book quite a bit. I wouldn't recommend it for the faint of heart, though: some of the action is pretty bloody, and a lot of the sex is "full of temper and violence," as the book itself says at one point. There's also one hardcore scene of (erotic) torture that goes further than many m/m books dare to.

the kind of story you either love or hate

This book is not for everyone. If you are willing to enter the world of the book, and go with it, then it carries you on its dark river very nicely. If you stop and think, then you capsize and want to leave (if that's not pushing the metaphor) This is a book that leads to these kind of thoughts. I enjoyed it, I really liked Killian Frost, dominant, werewolf, but not eater of souls. Colton the tortured shape shifter took longer for me to warm up to. There was a real sense of danger, the intertwining of sex and pain, love and self hate.

This is not your average shifter/BDSM novella. The entire story is a dark fairy tale, atmospheric and sexual, and I rate it a keeper and will probably reread, but not immediately.

Worst Care Plan Book.

I have used a number of different care plan books during my time in nursing school, and this was by far the worst. I was forced to purchase this because it was "required" by my nursing school and I hardly ever used it. I purchased the Nursing Diagnosis Handbook instead which is so much better and makes writing care plans a lot easier - Nursing Diagnosis Handbook Evidence Based Planning

Good book to help you with care plans. I have another book (nursing care plans) which I think is better, but this book gives me additional info when I need it!
