Desert Review

Agent Arthur's Desert Challenge is about Arthur's fourth action packed adventure when he goes to the wild west.When he travels to the main square to meet another agent,Andrea things go horribly wrong.Andrea gets kidnaped and then its up to Arthur to save her. This is my favourite Agent Arthur book because the story really gripped me and made me want to read on and the puzzles on every double page were extremely fun and challenging.This book gave me hours of fun and I've read it more times than I can renember and I still haven't become bored of it.

a am a 8 year old boy and i received this book from my mom as a gift it is G.R.E.A.T it has so many puzzles the puzzles they are kind of hard but once you get the hang of it you will like them.

Superb Introduction to Therapeutics Development

Medicinal Chemistry is an elegantly structured introduction to the topic. It blends the theory, practice and examples in an exceptionally well flowing presentation.

The first three chapters present the overall history and discovery process in therapeutics.

Then in Chapters 4-5 there is a discussion of enzymes and targets. There are many examples presented and analytical tools presented.

Chapters 6 through 9 discuss items related to the process. Finally Chapters 10 through 12 provide a simple but complete description about the Lead process of drug development. Chapters 11 and 12 provide a great balance of classic Lead development and some contemporary methods.

I would strongly recommend this for Medical students who are looking at Oncology or even Internal Medicine. It goes beyond the introduction to pharmacological materials generally presented to the Med Student and opens the windows on the world of pharmacological development.

This is a wonderful text. Unlike many research oriented books it presents a balanced analysis of all the materials and it does so in an uncluttered manner. It does no talk down to the reader nor does it isolate the reader with overly advanced jargon. The book is exceptionally well laid out and the material is uncluttered, unlike so many other texts that seem to want to include every possible image in a plethora of unreadable colors.

The only weakness in the books is the lack of a chapter on the development of many of the newer cancer therapeutics; those which are pathway modulators such as imatinib and those which are immunomodulators. Although this would have expanded the text, the importance of these new therapeutics really demands some discussion, perhaps in a second edition. To be fair, the author does briefly discuss imatinib on pp 80-81 but this is brief and does not address the pathway issues.

I would strongly recommend this book to anyone seeking to understand more on the pharmacological development area.

About the Author

M.D. Roblyer

M.D. Roblyer has been a technology-using teacher, professor, and contributor to the field of educational technology for nearly 40 years and has authored or co-authored hundreds of books, monographs, articles, columns, and papers on educational technology research and practice. Her other books for Pearson Education include Starting Out on the Internet: A Learning Journey for Teachers; Technology Tools for Teachers: A Microsoft Office Tutorial (with Steven C. Mills); and Educational Technology in Action: Problem-based Exercises for Technology Integration.

She began her exploration of technology’s benefits for teaching in 1971 as a graduate student at one of the country’s first successful instructional computer training sites, Pennsylvania State University, where she helped write tutorial literacy lessons in the Coursewriter II authoring language on an IBM 1500 dedicated instructional mainframe computer. While obtaining a Ph.D. in instructional systems at Florida State University, she worked on several major courseware development and training projects with Control Data Corporation’s PLATO system. In 1981–1982, she designed one of the early microcomputer software series Grammar Problems for Practice, in conjunction with the Milliken Publishing Company.

Currently, Dr. Roblyer is Adjunct Professor of Instructional Technology and Distance Education (ITDE) at Nova Southeastern University, chairing dissertations for ITDE doctoral students. She serves on editorial boards of various technology and research journals and is past-president of two AERA Special Interest Groups. Her current research focus is promoting student success in virtual school environments and exploring ways to increase interactive qualities in virtual courses. She is married to fellow FSU Ph.D., William R. Wiencke and is the mother of a daughter, Paige.

Aaron H. Doering

Aaron Doering is an associate professor in the Learning Technologies program at the University of Minnesota. He holds the Bonnie Westby Huebner Endowed Chair in Education and Technology, is a co-director of the Learning Technologies Media Lab, is a Laureate of the prestigious humanitarian Tech Awards, and is a fellow for the University of Minnesota Institute on the Environment. Doering received his Ph.D. in instructional systems and technology and a masters in geography.

Doering serves on numerous editorial boards and gives hundreds of talks a year on adventure learning, engagement, and motivation and his academic writing is focused on how to design and develop adventure learning (AL) environments, the impact of AL inside and outside the classroom, designing and developing online distance learning environments, and K-12 technology integration. He is also the PI of numerous projects such as Earthducation, an investigation of education and sustainability on every continent; Explore15, a user-driven adventure learning environment where students and teachers create their own AL environments; North of Sixty, where students throughout the world are collecting, analyzing, and sharing climate change data; and GeoThentic, a learning environment where teachers teach and students learn geography using geospatial technologies.

Doering has always had a passion for the environment and education from his childhood days of growing up on a farm in southern Minnesota. He always realized that our personal actions have a huge impact on our environment and that we need to be cognizant of how we are all interconnected. From his experiences teaching middle and high school social studies, to working at the National Geographic Society, to the thousands of miles he has spent crossing the circumpolar Arctic, Doering’s mission in life is to make a difference in the world through education.

Excellent textbook presentation

This book is an excellent resource for teachers and schools looking to train teachers in the use of educational technology. The focus is not using technology for technology's sake, but integrating technology into the classroom. A very balanced approach--technology is used to enhance education and motivate students, it will not improve education just by simply bringing it into your classroom. Probably equally as good for teaching a college course.

Fun Fun Fun!

This is an awesome how to draw book.

First, though this book is or the younger crow it is full of wonderful character design examples. It is easy to take these characters as bases and expand upon them.. basically.. great for the child of any age :) My be borrowing this from my daughter often.

Second, I love the binding. It is designed to lay flat no matter what page you are on so you don't have to find a paper weight or prop the book open while drawing one of the subjects.

Finally, great price for what it has to offer for young and old.

My kinder kids love learning to draw during a whole class guided group lesson. Each drawing take about 5 minutes when making sure all 23 children have added each line, and I go very slowly. Then they can practice on their own another time. :-)

Still, Nissel deserves her moment in the sun. As a struggling college student at the University of Pennsylvania, she decided that to keep her mind off her empty stomach, she would keep a journal of her days and post it on the Net. The result is a series of biting, funny entries about the evil atmosphere of check-cashing offices, the horror of being two cents short for the grocery bill and the joys of making friends who buy dinner. Her wry thoughts about being flat broke will appeal to readers who enjoyed Bridget Jones's exploits and similarly sparky works. Nissel is no fictional Bridget, however, obsessing about weight and cigarettes. She's a city girl who knows the exact price of ramen noodles and the pain of counting pennies. Although she occasionally recycles material, she rants with aplomb, using colorful anecdotes (her elderly landlord comes for the rent and ends up falling asleep on the couch) to pull the reader further into her impoverished reality. Get Ready for a gut-busting laugh IF you have ever been broke, pick up this book

I have read this book at least ten times. Whenever I feel like giving up...Whenever my sunshine turns to gray....you know where I am going and sorry to quote Prince...But The Broke Diaries is the best gut-busting laugh type of story. Every person who has ever experienced "hard times", "broke moments", " In-between jobs", "in school", or working towards a goal and has to sort of wait that full-time pay check out needs to pick up this book to give you the hope and humor to keep going. This book has so many funny stories. I don't want to spoil it but yeah get ready to laugh. Curl up with a blanket and get some snacks and get ready to laugh....I wish she had an audio book (wink wink Angela Nissel)...It's just hilarious (thinking about the turnstile story lol) YES! I just might put this on my reading list again...

So frickin' funny!

I loved this book. As a former college student who worked through it all for 11 years (I went REAL SLOW), I totally empathize with Nissel's stories. Unlike me, though, Nissel is able to find the humor in any situation, even when the upstairs neighbor's flushed tampons overflow her toilet so badly that the service guys spend a day taking her toilet out of her apartment, leaving her with a nasty gaping hole and four servicemen crammed into her tiny bathroom...after she's back from the gym and just wants a shower.

I had a hard time putting this one down, as it's a definite pick-me-up after any long or stressful day! Will read again :)

Good job for what it is.

This diary was one of the cleverest ideas in a while. It does come off as a little corny in places (I'll agree with critics), but this did well in moving facts along in an urban and comedic tone, which is necessary for what this is.

There are no really jarring "broke" stories, but plenty to relate to or be enlightened by.

Nissel is a clever and tough cookie that earned her stripes and should be applauded. It's definitely more entertaining than your average memoir or bio that's for sure.

Paper money was invented by the Chinese - one thousand years later, the American colonists were the first ones in the Western world to systematically use it, even financing their revolution by issuing huge numbers of dollar bills. Modern life would be unthinkable without paper money. Yet, the general public is kept very much in the dark about how banknotes are made or who makes them. This secrecy is regularly explained as legitimate special security for a very special product. But it also has to do with the unusual, highly6 politicized structure of the market. The armaments industry immediately comes to mind. This obsession with secrecy, however, seems out of place in the era of the internet. After all, banknote printing involves the massive use - and often waste- of taxpayers' money.

This is the first book offering an in-depth view of the banknote industry and its modus operandi. The only known former attempt to reveal this story was by an American author. The edition of that book was bought up - straight from the printing presses - by two prominent representatives of the industry because the public was not supposed to get an inside view of the business.

Klaus W. Bender is an economist and journalist with 30 years experience as a foreign correspondent for the "Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung" (FAZ), Germany's leading daily paper. From an office in Tokyo, he has covered East Asia; from Rome, the Mediterranean basin; from Vienna, the Eastern European countries in transition. Further, in the run-up to the birth of the euro, since the 1990�s he has been investigating the situation of the banknote industry and its problems. As a result, in the year 2000 he discovered and broke the story of the misprinting of more than 300 million 100-euro bills by the officially appointed printer in Germany. The story went around the world. Additionally, he was the first journalist to report on the unfolding economic difficulties of the Bundesdruckerei in Berlin, the then highly respected state printing plant of the DM bills, as it was about to be privatized.

Maintaining the high standard!

This is the third book that I've read by the author in this series and once again I encountered the same high quality and attention to detail that is very evident in the other works. I would be very surprised indeed to find that there is another book out there that would be prepared to go into so much detail on what is, after all, a relatively specific topic within the field. Not only that, what could be a very dry topic is written in a very personal and readable way. If the subject matter is at all relevant to you, then this would have to be a must purchase!
