Literally just a casebook

This book could be greatly improved if it contained more than just cases, and author's notes. It needs more explanation of the law, and how it applies. This, after all, is the essence of a casebook. I've always thought that we buy textbooks in law school because they give you more than a key search on Westlaw. Throughout this course, though, I was frustrated by the Author's bare use of cases. There is no overview of the salient points preceding the opinions. This is fine if you're learning the law through independent research. However, when I'm paying $250 for a textbook, you expect a little more from the authors, such as are provided in other casebooks. You won't find things like headings with explanations with the law and its elements, etc. in this casebook. Those are what I find helpful, and this book makes reviewing difficult, because if you want to review a point of law, you need to read the entire case again, rather than referring to the author's explanation.
Bottom line, If you're a lawyer or law student who wants to learn copyright law on your own, I'm sure there is a better book out there. This book doesn't give you much more than a search on Lexis or Westlaw. If you're a professor considering using this book for your class, I would recommend a different book for your class.

Possibly the best casebook in existence

Let's be clear. This is a casebook. It is intended for use by law students in the context of a class taught by a law professor. It is not intended for independent study or review. For that, you want a treatise rather than a casebook. I recommend Chisum et al's Understanding Intellectual Property.
As casebooks go, however, this one is outstanding. As a law professor, I have reviewed at least twenty casebooks across different subjects before making my selections for the courses I teach. This one is the best casebook I have ever seen.
If you are buying this book on Amazon, you are almost certainly a student who has no choice in the matter anyway. Don't be discouraged by Arguably's review. This book won't spoon feed you the black letter law, but it is well designed for a great classroom experience.
